Shennongjia National Park

1.General Information

Being in the northwest Hubei province, Shenongjia National Park is located in the transitional area between the Second Gradient Terrain and the Third Gradient Terrain in China. It is said that the reserve got its name Shennongjia because the early Chinese Emperor Shennong once collected and tried herbal medicine here. It is the only place in middle China that has the distribution of primeval forests, and one of the fourteen global key areas for international conservation and research on biodiversity. As a world heritage site by UNESCO, Shennongjia Nature Reserve mainly targets the protection of the forest ecological system, the rare and precious wildlife, and plants.
